In our culture, men often struggle to talk to each another about the things that really matter: our fears, desires, sins, and our suffering. We’re more likely to keep our real thoughts and feelings hidden and to live independently, embracing island mentality.
The Bible envisages a connected community who disciple each other – who build one another up in faith through knowing each other, caring deeply for each other, and by praying and speaking gospel truth into each other’s lives.
There’s much to say to encourage, challenge, and grow one another in maturity in our faith.
The men’s ministry aims to disrupt the island mentality and enable us to be more like the connected, discipling community that Paul describes in Ephesians 4.
There are many ways to be part of this community.
Our next event is a brunch on Saturday, 11th October.
In the busyness of studying, working, families and church, it’s all too easy to lose sight of our calling as people Jesus has sent into the world to make disciples.
At the brunch, we will hear from men in the church who have been called not just to their friends and family, but specifically to ministry and mission. Listening to their stories, we’re going to consider how we can help one another live as sent people and become more attentive and responsive to God’s calling on our lives.
If you’re planning to come, please sign up below, so we can plan and cater for everyone.
We have lots of events coming up for the men in church- there’s something for everyone! Wherever possible, please sign up early, so we can cater for everyone.
Get together before Christmas to learn how to carve a wooden Christmas decoration! As well as an opportunity for fellowship as we carve together, there will be a short evangelistic talk, meaning this should also be a good introductory event to invite non-Christian friends to.
The evening will cost £10 per person to enable us to provide the materials. This includes a wood carving knife that you can take home and continue to hone your skills, along with some wood to carve on the night and light refreshments.
Please sign up by November 1st so we can order the necessary materials and equipment.
Ephesians 1 clearly teaches us that we have “every spiritual blessing in Christ,” but at times in our lives, it doesn’t feel like this is true. This can particularly affect us during times of suffering, when we can feel afflicted rather than blessed, and wonder what God is doing.
We’re going to consider this difficult dynamic at the next men’s dinner on 17th January. We’re going to listen to the stories of some men in our church who have suffered physically over the last couple of years, and hear how God sustained them in the face of ill health and anxiety about the future.
We will consider together how we can hold true both the spiritual reality of “every spiritual blessing in Christ,” and the present reality of suffering we would prefer not to be facing, both in our own lives and how we can comfort friends who are facing suffering.
Please sign up early so we know how many to cater for.
On 28th March, we’re going to head to Delamere forest to play Frisbee Golf together and then enjoy lunch in the cafe. There will be an option for a walk after lunch for anyone who would like to stay for this as well.
It costs £3 - £3.50 to play frisbee golf (depending on numbers). Full information is on the Delamere forest website.
Please consider coming even if you aren’t particularly interested in frisbee golf - the aim of Men’s Fellowship events isn’t simply to do an activity, but to use it as a means to spend time together to grow our friendships and fellowship together.
Ephesians 5 and 6 anticipate the glorious truths Paul lays out in chapters 1-3 to change the way we act with our families and in our work life. Paul expects the fruit of the gospel, of the Spirit’s work within us, to be on display in these areas.
For many men, family and work responsibilities occupy the majority of our week. At the men’s brunch, we are going to discuss these areas of life and help one another consider how we can and do see the fruit of our identity in Christ both at work and in our homes, and how we can encourage one another to live out this calling.
Please sign up by 3rd June if you can, so we can plan and cater for everyone.
On 28th March, we’re going to head to Delamere forest again for a walk together, followed by lunch in the cafe. For the more adventurous amongst us, we may then head to The Aqua Park at Wild Shore Delamere if there is enough interest in doing this.
Please consider coming even if walking isn’t your thing - the aim of Men’s Fellowship events isn’t simply to do an activity, but to use it as a means to spend time together to grow our friendships and fellowship together.
We will need to book the Aqua Park early, so please let Tom know by email (tom@christchurchliverpool.org) or on the Men’s WhatsApp Group if you are interested. If enough of us express an interest by early May, we will make a booking.
Tickets for the Aqua Park cost £24 per person, and details can be found here.
